A young woman left her family for an unspecified reason. The husband determines to find out the truth and starts following his wife. At first, he suspects that a man is involved. But gradually, he finds out more and more strange behaviors and bizarre incidents that indicate something more than a possessed love affair.

Marriage Story, but it turns into a hentai directed by the Devil. Possession is split into two halves, both are excellent, but the way we experience the movie drastically changes between them. The first half is a story about a couple falling outta love, we witness the destruction of their relationship and the spectrum of emotions each of them goes through, the dialogue and acting are fucking excellent. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat simply by having a couple argue, something so simple yet very effective. I loved this first half. It felt deeply human, a poignant exploration of love, loyalty, and the toll they take on us. And the BAM, the devil gets involved in the movie and it enters into what the fuck territory. Blood sacrifices, Ominous monologues, Doppelgangers, An octopus? Nothing, i mean nothing, could have prepared me for what was yet to come. And yet, the film…

Singularly redefined the potential heights of the horror genre ever, for a first viewing experience, it is uncomfortably horrific and atrociously macabre. In a film that is utterly filled with nihilistic and existential philosophy, to be mentally prepared is an understatement. It is a testament to Żuławski's harsh confrontation with the themes of divorce, in which it really shows how he shaped a film that can perpetually rival the mainstream platform. Depicting a grotesque and eerie atmosphere, contorted performances that are shakingly disturbing, and a twisted narrative that accumulates to a borderline ending. Singlehandledly might be my favorite horror film up to date.
