In the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are special operatives charged with keeping order throughout the human territories. On assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two undertake a mission to Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis where species from across the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence, and cultures. At the center of Alpha is a mysterious dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

One time during the movie I stopped and thought "I really like that scene in the Shawshank Redemption with the Opera. That would be cool to watch again. In fact, I would love to watch that again." So I finished the movie and went to my room and watched that scene and promptly forgot that this movie ever even existed. By sheer chance and dumb luck, I happened to look over at my copy of Star Trek and then promptly thought about all the cool Sci-Fi films I've seen recently and I gotta say, I didn't think about Valerian at all. X-Men 3 came to my mind though and, of course, X-Men 3 led me down another rabbit hole of things I didn't like. Dark Phoenix came to mind, Blonde came to mind, the Criterion cover for Worst Person in the World came to mind, but Valerian didn't. It just didn't.
