One time during the movie I stopped and thought "I really like that scene in the Shawshank Redemption with the Opera. That would be cool to watch again. In fact, I would love to watch that again." So I finished the movie and went to my room and watched that scene and promptly forgot that this movie ever even existed. By sheer chance and dumb luck, I happened to look over at my copy of Star Trek and then promptly thought about all the cool Sci-Fi films I've seen recently and I gotta say, I didn't think about Valerian at all. X-Men 3 came to my mind though and, of course, X-Men 3 led me down another rabbit hole of things I didn't like. Dark Phoenix came to mind, Blonde came to mind, the Criterion cover for Worst Person in the World came to mind, but Valerian didn't. It just didn't. From there I thought about things that I thought were underrated or not talked about enough. I really loved Police Story 1&2, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was really fun, Ad Astra was phenomenal and yet no one brings it up. Then I thought "Oh, I really like that movie, I'm glad that I own it." So I walk over to it, take it off my shelf, and give the Blu-Ray the attention it disserved. After that, I put it back and Cloverfield catches my eye. "I love Cloverfield," I thought to myself. So I go over and look at that for awhile. After putting it back on the shelf, I see Chronicle and think "Man, Dane DeHaan is a really underrated actor." I wonder what else he's in. So I waddle on over to my computer and type his name into the Letterboxd search bar. I click on his name and look through his movies that I've seen him in. By sheer chance and dumb luck, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets just so happens to be one of them. Even after all of that, I had to click on the movie, see my rating of it, wonder why I rated it that because I remembered not liking it, and then finally realizing that I had seen it not even 15 minutes ago. All of that just for me to remember that this even existed. Hell, even after realizing I had seen it, I just watched the Shawshank Redemption scene again and then went back to Letterboxd to see if anyone had logged anything recently and I was still on the page for this. So I did the reasonable thing and made this review. I will forget about this the instant I hit "Save" and will never think of this again. But I liked the David Bowie at the beginning, that was pretty cool.
