“The whole world’s my hiding place.” This was pretty good. The Invisible Man is an interesting character and his antics are enjoyable to watch. Also, the special effects were groundbreaking, especially the final shot. I'm glad it started out with him already mad rather than having us watch his descent as that would have probably stretched the film too thin.

Bonkers how they shot this for the time, the task of selling the idea alone seems impossible, but they did it all with practical effects and literal film manipulation. The past few months, I've been going down this rabbit hole of films ranging from the 1900-1940's and it just rouses me up so much on how studios and individual filmmakers went above and beyond with the craziest plots and tropes and did them justice. What's even more ludicrous to me is the fact that most characters in these films have a grey moral compass, neither being an outright hero, nor a villain trying to burn the world down without a cause. That leaves so much more room for the people watching to make what they want of it and draw their own conclusions.

87/100 Just like the last film I logged, this is a film heavily influenced by one central thing. This by no means is saying that the rest of the film is bad. The music is great and James Whale's direction is spectacular. However, the clear draw here is Claude Rains as the titular Invisible Man. Rains is great as Jack Griffin, managing to do good in the dramatic scenes (though I felt they were the weakest part of the movie) and excelling as this homicidal maniac. Its one of my favourite villain performances I've seen. He also has a surprisingly large kill count, which is pretty cool for a film this early. The special effects for Griffin's invisibility is also handled excellently, with an ingenious execution of a fun and greatly utilized idea. In addition to the Invisible Man, the film is helped along with great acting by his costars. In conclusion, the Invisible Man is a pretty good movie. I would've preferred if Jack was just like that normally instead of some magical drug making him insane, but that doesn't make a great movie worse.

Niestety im bliżej końca, tym gorzej wychodzi mu żonglerka horrorem i komedią. Albo sobie wkręcam, albo scena z Pop Goes the Weasel to coś, do czego w 1972 roku będzie nawiązywać Cabaret ze swoim "Money"🤔
