I've been inactive for awhile due to the hit reality show, Breaking Bad. First Chaplin feature and I was so glad I was finally able to watch this. Absolutely hilarious and has one of the best monologues of all time. It could seriously rival speeches from real life activists. Can't wait to own on Criterion.

A classic movie that I thought hasn’t aged perfectly. It’s a movie that can be both really funny sometimes and really compelling sometimes. The physical comedy moments, and the nazi accent and just the overall humor in this movie is excellent. The commentary on fascism and dictatorship is also really clever, showing us truly not just how evil they were, but how prideful and pathetic they were as well. The final Monalouge in this film is really brilliant and everyone knows that already, but it’s truly an incredible scene. Also this movie really shows Chaplin as an actor, the way he portrays hitler is just an absolute joy to watch and it makes the movie better. However my problems with movie mainly come down to length and pacing. It’s a relatively long film for a black and white movie, and it shouldn’t be that long because honestly when the movie wasn’t funny or having some satire, it…

The ending speech was just so good.  Finally watched this for film club.

Chaplin’s brother in law made a BTS video in color that’s on Criterion Channel.  It’s pretty cool!
