The Great Dictator1940

A classic movie that I thought hasn’t aged perfectly. It’s a movie that can be both really funny sometimes and really compelling sometimes. The physical comedy moments, and the nazi accent and just the overall humor in this movie is excellent. The commentary on fascism and dictatorship is also really clever, showing us truly not just how evil they were, but how prideful and pathetic they were as well. The final Monalouge in this film is really brilliant and everyone knows that already, but it’s truly an incredible scene. Also this movie really shows Chaplin as an actor, the way he portrays hitler is just an absolute joy to watch and it makes the movie better. However my problems with movie mainly come down to length and pacing. It’s a relatively long film for a black and white movie, and it shouldn’t be that long because honestly when the movie wasn’t funny or having some satire, it kinda dragged. To me the movie should have focused more on tue comedy elements than the story, because the story is pretty simple and sometimes the movie just shows stuff happening without much intrigue, still tho a really clever and funny movie that deserves its place in film history
