Un ex poliziotto (James Badge Dale) indaga sulla scomparsa di una ragazza legata a un culto misterioso. Le sue ricerche lo portano a scoprire una leggenda urbana su "The Empty Man", un’entità antica che viene invocata attraverso un rituale e che porta con sé terrore e follia. The Empty Man ha un’ottima atmosfera e un concept interessante che mescola folklore, culti e horror lovecraftiano. Le prime sequenze sono inquietanti e la costruzione della tensione è curata. Purtroppo però il film è troppo lungo, con un ritmo molto lento che non sempre paga e un finale che lascia un po’ insoddisfatti. James Badge Dale è bravo, ma il materiale non è sfruttato al massimo.

It falls in the list of movies where the opening is so heavy on tha tmosphere that the latter half cannot drag it's weight and fall under it. Think of longlegs and the exorcist. Really uniques nonetheless. Never even heard of it but was a good find.

Lovecraft stuff

#MYSHIT in truest sense. This is something I can call as an acquired taste otherwise such films aren’t something that are universally loved and it’s visible from divisive response. Totally up my ally. Wow. Crazy, bizarre, insane, just choose any such words and it will be a perfect fit for this brilliantly made mindfuck of a film. Honestly telling I loved that it was more than 2 hours long. I read few reviews which said that horror films should not go above 90 or 120 minutes. But this felt like it was throwing in original mystery and bizarre stuffs consistently that I was massively hooked, making sense of what’s happening on the screen. There are some horrific set pieces that were super creative and stuck in my mind. My only negative is overall performances, not everybody were like good in it. Some seemed like they were straight out of a C-Grade movie.  Best part is the ambiguity of it…
