Wow. What an intense movie.  Some people say Magnolia is the shortest 3 hour film they’ve seen (I agree). But this one? This one was the longest 1 hour 10 minute long movie. It was a nightmare you just wanted to end quickly. Yet the movies pacing and editing made it feel so long and nightmarish. Now don’t get me wrong when I say it’s long. It was on purpose and well done.  Such a tragedy! Shot so beautifully. 

Denis Villeneuve is really the GOAT, man.

Denis Villeneuve’s masterful immersion is imminent in this older film of his. Is there any film he has made in the last decade or so that has not been a masterpiece? This may not be his great masterpiece but it’s still a masterpiece in some sense just because of how he shoots the film, how he makes it absolutely captivating with his distinct way of storytelling. Right from the beginning he tries not to lose that solid grip on his craft. Really a special director for a reason.  There is something in his films that just makes me wanna just keep watching, whether the framing of a shot, cinematography, music, genius sound designing — I know these are handled by other genius artists in the background but for sure Denis Villeneuve has every hand in these departments— which makes this director my current all time favourite. Denis Villeneuve’s immersion is something to crave for.

Mocna ambiwalencja we mnie po obejrzeniu tego. Z jednej strony widać tu rękę zdolnego reżysera, a surowy niemal dokumentalizm przybija tym, jak taka tragedia wydaje się być niemalże "na porządku dziennym". Z drugiej jednak strony, owa tragedia jest zupełnie niepotrzebnie dodatkowo udramatyzowana, w celu naciągnięcia jej pod swoje tezy - innymi słowy komentuje coś, co nie wymaga żadnego komentarza.
