Can’t believe this is Celine Song’s debut film. Better to just bloody give her Oscar right now and don’t wait for next year to come. An instant definitive triumph that doesn’t happen always. The feeling of watching something as outstanding artistry as this is some other level. Lingering effect here is an ultimate treasure that I seek in such movies and I got exactly that - just like the lead characters who expressed a lot without saying, my few seconds silence after the film ended was absolutely worth the experience for any movie buffs like me. It felt so good. It said a lot about what kind of film I just watched.  It doesn’t get more intimate or naturalistic storytelling than this. Deeply heartfelt in every department. The way past and present are interlinked, it looks simple but the complexities of emotions/longing came out brilliantly because of stunning lead…

Best movie of 2023 so far ✨ Supplemental Response on July 30, 2023: I have rated lots of 5s since seeing Past Lives, so I felt an update is necessary.  Past Lives is still the best movie of 2023 so far. I have not seen The Meg 2 yet.

Do you remember the first time you fell in love, how it opened up the world for you in ways your young imagination could not yet fathom? This film exists in such a space. Curious, empathetic, humbled. Two children gazing into each other's eyes looking for something. A shared identity. A radical vulnerability. That ineffable braid of consequence, the 8000 layers of "inyeon". Loving is perhaps the most cherished mission we are charged with. Loss permeates everything, and yet we go on.

i’m honestly still sitting with this film. it’s so delicately written and beautifully put together. i don’t think i’ve seen many films capture a single idea as thoughtfully as this one does. the concept of in-yeon really stayed with me and, yeah, it had me quietly sobbing and overthinking everything. there are so many layered emotions here, and the film lets you feel all of them without ever being loud about it. it’s restrained, deeply moving, and that bittersweet ending is just… painfully perfect. a film that lingers long after it’s over.

Past Lives (2023) ReView • is a beautiful story about love, destiny, and missed chances. It follows Nora and Hae Sung, childhood friends who meet again after years apart, and explores their deep connection. The acting by Greta Lee and Teo Yoo is heartfelt, and the simple, thoughtful storytelling makes the movie very moving. While it’s slow at times, the emotions stay with you long after watching.
