“I don’t know, all I can see is the frame. I’m going in there now to look at the picture.” Wow, what a movie. A really incredible noir with a great cast. Having watched Robert Mitchum somewhat recently in The Night of the Hunter, it’s cool to see him play a more positive leading role.  While still tough, he has a gentleness to him as well. He’s very clever and keeps one step ahead right up until the ending. Kirk Douglas is fantastic here with his ice-cold smile. So menacing in the way that you never quite know how much he knows.
