Out of the Past1947

“I don’t know, all I can see is the frame. I’m going in there now to look at the picture.” Wow, what a movie. A really incredible noir with a great cast. Having watched Robert Mitchum somewhat recently in The Night of the Hunter, it’s cool to see him play a more positive leading role.  While still tough, he has a gentleness to him as well. He’s very clever and keeps one step ahead right up until the ending. Kirk Douglas is fantastic here with his ice-cold smile. So menacing in the way that you never quite know how much he knows.  And the femme fatale, Jane Greer. Beautiful and wicked to her core, and the true villain of the piece. Mitchum outsmarts her throughout, but he can’t outrun her.  This is a movie you just gotta watch. In some aspects, it feels like a time capsule; in others, it’s absolutely timeless. I’m sure most noir lovers have already seen this film, but if you haven’t, definitely check this one out.
