OK, I get it now. I stand by everything I said last time, but it really clicked how beautifully shot this movie is. Like, absolutely gorgeous. The writing is so-so. Given how similar it is to the previous movie, I do feel that that aspect is not as strong. Maybe there are too many moving parts. Also, a little character assassination for Ilsa as a treat. Like, her motivations and actions in the previous film make sense and make her a great character and counterpart to Ethan Hunt. But in this movie, her motivations are bland and undermine her as a character and as a female lead.
Look, everything you saw in this was always present in the previous parts, but what makes it different is that it justifies them like no other. The stakes are always high, but here it explains why. Hunt is always getting disavowed—but this time, it explains that too, all while maintaining a pace that specially Ghost Protocol lacked.
