I have never cried harder over a movie. Going in as my first instance of the revolutionary Inception of science fiction that is Mary Shelly's 'Frankenstein', I could not ask for more. Not only has there never been a movie that rhymes with my own lives experience this well, I don't think any book ever will either, once I sit down and cry over the pages of the original.

the ending of this movie is just so amazing. i think part 2 of the movie is the better part but in genereal the movie is great. this can be a 3.5 or 4 stars to me but im having a hard time deciding. such a great movie, the costume design is amzizng the story is great!. nothing more to say. Oh yeah, the fact they they didnt have the "Its Alive, Its Alive!" in this film is criminal.

It’s a beautiful story with all the typical Guillermo’s production design, cinematography and even overall direction. The only thing that bothered me was that it felt like a very safe film. It was as if Guillermo just wanted to retell the classic without any surprises. I don’t know anything about the book or the old Frankenstein film but it still felt like a borderline safe film. After some point that interest in the story slowly started fading away because I knew how the story would go irrespective of how beautiful the story and world was. I wish the narrative was more interesting and not too obvious. In the first 30-40 minutes I knew how the story would go plus typical Guillermo’s direction. It’s really a good watch but I wanted more.

I love Guillermo del Toro. He has such a great style, and I always like his films. I feel like anything that is holding this movie back must be due to the fact that a successful Frankenstein adaptation is very difficult to make. Is there an adaptation of that story that everyone agrees is the best or most faithful? I know Frankenstein(’s monster) as a shuffling, grunting behemoth, but I know that is not an accurate depiction. This movie displays the creature as intelligent and human. I can tell that there are things that have been cut from the story. Perhaps to make the characters more sympathetic. I think that the Frankenstein story really just isn’t for me. It is incredibly tragic with little payoff, and while the movie looks really good, it doesn’t quite move me. The performances are great, and I don’t have any real complaints, so it really must come down to the source material.  I think that del Toro has better films about sympathetic monsters already in his catalogue, so I’ll probably rewatch all those before I watch this again.

74/100 Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, is one of the earliest science fiction stories ever told, and now, Guillermo del Toro brings us a great adaptation for the modern day. Of course, a Guillermo del Toro film will have a certain amount of attention to the direction, but the acting here is also superb. Jacob Isaac in particular is great as Victor Frankenstein. There are subtleties to the way he acts as this narcissistic yet curious scientist, equally unprepared for the consequences and benefits of his actions. I enjoyed the subtle touches of Freudian logic here, such as him constantly drinking milk and the fact that his love interest, the unattainable Elizabeth, resembles his mother. Mia Goth's performance is also good, even if I do find the "too good for this world" thing a bit tiring after a while. The star is, of course, Jacob Elordi as the Monster. I can see why he was…

loved how creature's sufferings were shown here and the message behind it, i don't have much to write this time cause for me this was decent but what really stands out is Jacob Elordi's portrayal, man this guy really refreshed his image in my mind and i can never see him like i used to...,def did a wonderful job!!! and other actors were great too, can't forget mia goth and oscar isaac performance too <3 and second thing was direction which really did for me, and completely liked del toro's vision. it's just that the first half had nothing different to offer, same story we knew already just few tweaks, creature's story changed everything for me!!

O panie, tu jest tak nierówno że ho ho. No bo z jednej strony film potrafi być piękny (ale Crimson Peak still ładniejsze) - gotyckie wnętrza, wspaniałe zwłoki które przywodzą na myśl Beksińskiego, czy anioł śmierci w snach Victora - wszystkie te widoki aż proszą żeby się nimi delektować. No ale z drugiej strony dostajemy to nieszczęsne, paskudne wręcz CGI dzikich zwierząt. Niby scenariusz ma solidne fundamenty (no bo też jakoś wielce nie zmienia tego, na czym stal oryginał i pierdyliard jego odtworzeń), niby daje ciekawą relację ojciec-syn, która mówi o przebaczaniu i pojednaniu, a do tego dochodzi filozoficzna rozkimnka o tym, jak szybko nieśmiertelność stałaby się dla człowieka przekleństwem. Ale z drugiej strony nie brakuje tu rażących głupotek, które mają miejsce tylko po to, żeby scenariusz mógł płynąć, co bardzo widać. Poziom durnowatości w pewnym momencie osiąga taki poziom, iż…
