Some people I know don't really get what's good about this movie, but I'm telling you that Brokeback Mountain is one beautiful love story, especially if you can get past the notion that it's about two cowboys who has "done" it on the mountain. With no prejudice and regardless of gender, these two people found love in each other and they just had that connection. Ennis won't even be gay (and I don't think he is) without Jack. The society's imposition that stops them from pursuing real happiness - when you know as an audience that they are meant to be together - is heart breaking. And that final scene means everything. This movie tells us that you can never abandon your true love. You can put it behind your back, lock your heart in a case and throw away the key, but it will always find its way to remind  you about what's real and true. This is definitely my second favorite film from Ang Lee.

i wish i knew how to quit you. how do you come back from a film like brokeback mountain? seriously. ennis and jack didn’t just break my heart, they dragged it through the dirt, kissed it, then shattered it again. heath ledger as ennis… my god. all that quiet, choked-up emotion. the way he held everything in, even when it was killing him. and jake gyllenhaal as jack was this soft, glowing ache, full of hope and hurt and wanting more. the last 30 minutes? pure devastation. i cried so hard. so fucking hard. i couldn’t stop. it felt like grieving something real. heath and jake didn’t just act, they became those men. i love them so, so, so much. i don’t think i’ll ever recover from this one.

i saw some dingus on tiktok say "imo heated rivalry is so much better than brokeback mountain" unironically, NOT RAGEBAIT, and i was just so angry i had to rewatch this just to calm down like what the fuck
