Celebrated sleuth Hercule Poirot, now retired and living in self-imposed exile in Venice, reluctantly attends a Halloween séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

Definitely better than either of the previous Branagh films. This is definitely benefitted by the fact that it hasn’t been adapted before. It was good enough that it made want to see further adaptation from Branagh. The look is really good. The locations are incredible with great ambience and interesting camera work. Taking horror elements and adapting them to a mystery in unique ways. It can still be melodramatic but nowhere near the extremes of the previous film. I like seeing Poirot somewhat at home as well. The mystery is definitely one of the more interesting one but there seems to be more focus on the supernatural elements than on the mystery itself. This film also puts more of an effort in putting you in Poirots perspective (literally) and I think it makes his emotional elements stronger.
