Zack Snyder's Justice League2021

“I'm Not Broken, & I'm Not Alone.” Those words form the central thesis of Zack Snyder’s final vision of his film with DC’s Paragons of Virtue. This movie feels like the culmination of Snyder’s vision, as much as the fans fought for Snyder to display his vision for the film it also is bittersweet as he was originally taken off the film due to a tragic death in the family. Although with him being rehired, he dedicates this movie to his daughter’s memory. As it’s own standalone film it does pretty well, even if there are a couple of oversights. As the final film in a trilogy…it accomplishes its job competently. In comparison to the dumpster fire that was released in 2017. It’s like watching The Godfather. That’s how huge the gap is… quality wise. Zack Snyder is a famous filmmaker known more for his elite visuals, so his movies looking good is a given. From start to finish the movie was aesthetically pleasing & engaging. Do not fret, his visual style is still present and if you’ve seen his other work you’ll see similarities with the grading,editing & cinematography (300, Sucker Punch, Watchmen, Man Of Steel& Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. I enjoyed most of the cinematography in the film. Massive shout out to Fabian Wagner & David Brenner. The editing and cinematography are a huge step up from the nonsense Warner Bros. released in 2017. My favorite use of the lighting and color grading was during the film when Superman arrived back at his home surrounded by family. He was bathed by this reddish orangish hue, which symbolizes love for him and essentially being resurrected to be the man he was before death instead of the mindless monster he was at the memorial. Real heartwarming scene. Another thing i enjoyed was the contrast between Bruce Wayne when he is alone, he is displayed in this cold blue-tinted lighting to demonstrate how alone and unfeeling he’s become since the death of his Robin and how he’s now driven by guilt rather than truly honoring Superman’s sacrifice. At the end of the movie, Batman wakes up peacefully, bathed in this warm amber hue as he reflects on the victory of the Justice League and the revelation of a new ally, in Martian Manhunter. This visual language communicates just as much as the story that Snyder’s Batman has progressed positively towards reaching the ideal of who he once was & the ideal that Superman set when he died for his new home.  As much as i enjoyed this film there was a lot to dislike as well. It may be fiction but it takes me out of the film when I have to rationalize away logical inconsistencies. Especially if the movie is grounded in reality. One thing for me is the mother boxes were completely inactive since the days of Uxas’s invasion (Darkseid War). Nothing has awakened the boxes. This meant that earth was vulnerable for however long before Superman came on the scene. Why not invade again to obtain the anti-life equation. It’s literally like frieza knowing the DragonBalls exist on Namek, and waiting until Piccolo or Goku dies to go invade Namek??? Also why did the mother boxes get activated only upon Superman’s exclamation. If that’s the case Zod or the other Kryptonians would have woken up the mother boxes upon their deaths as well. Zod was literally unhinged when Superman blew up the world engine & he was literally screaming the whole fight. The same logic applies if it is contingent upon a Kryptonian’s death. By all accounts Steppenwolf or Darkseid should have invaded way earlier. Another one of my favorite scenes, is the one where Superman goes to collect the black and white suit, with his father(s) Johnathan Kent & Jor-El echoing his life’s journey. I think it’s a beautiful contrast between how lost he was in Man Of Steel (2013), wondering what his purpose was & thinking is it his place to be Earth’s beacon of hope. I’m specifically talking about the church scene and the scene where Superman poses in a christ-like manner underwater in Man Of Steel(2013). In this movie, after essentially being resurrected for dying for Earth, he is sure about his place on Earth & as Earth’s defender. He suits up and flies towards the sun reminiscent of Christ. The CGI in this movie is pretty metal. Cyborg’s CGI and the scene where he was testing his limitations, Wonder Woman’s actions scenes (don’t even bother watching WW84, the cgi here is miles ahead of that film), Aquaman and the Atlanteans underwater, Steppenwolf, Darkseid, Granny Goodness & DeSaaD.
