Started off really liking this. The movie leaned hard into late-‘90s fanfare, and honestly, I was here for it — tons of references I knew, loved, and appreciated. It almost felt like a little too much at times, but it still worked for me early on. The first half gave me Superbad vibes, then the second half turned into pure This Is The End chaos. I’ve been a Kyle Mooney fan since his YouTube days before SNL, so I was excited to see what he’d do with this. The concept of Y2K actually causing the end of the world was really fun and the practical effects were a nice touch. But ultimately, the movie got too absurd and chaotic for my taste. I didn’t love how early they killed off characters like Danny — characters I thought were going to be the emotional anchors — and the ones who stayed behind just didn’t click for me.
I don’t know what y’all are on. This shit is fire.
First 30 minutes was fun and accurately depicted my highschool experience from 1999-2003. The last 60 minutes was not.
