biopics are always either a hit or a miss, and clearly there were some scenes that are quotidian or rather cliche for the genre but, its overall pacing keeps you glued and its scripting lacks pretentiousness by not painting bourdain into a young virtuoso chef or a writer, instead sticking to that rebellious and reckless stage of his youth before kitchen confidential and in his later introspection. bourdain walked the beat of his own drum and weaved his influence through the importance of food and dining to relationships and culture. he was a trailblazer, copied by many but can never be duplicated.
