HERE  LIES  Lᴇꜱᴛᴇʀ Mᴏᴏʀᴇ  ꜰᴏᴜʀ ꜱʟᴜɢꜱ  ꜰʀᴏᴍ ᴀ 44  ɴᴏ ʟᴇꜱ  ɴᴏ ᴍᴏʀᴇ What is it about westerns that feel so romantic? Perhaps more than other periods in history, at least to our “modern” sensibilities. Obviously, the time period has been further simplified and romanticized over the last century and a half, yet even in its own time, it already had a mythic nature to it. Perhaps the western is just the modern version of the classic Greek epic or Arthurian legend.  It could be the allure of a transitional period of American history. On the cusp of the Industrial Revolution but still appealing to man’s desire for discovery and exploration.  Tombstone is about as timeless of a western as you could hope to see. The characters become forces of nature guided by fate and given power beyond what should be capable of mortal men. Wyatt Earp wants nothing more than a simple life, but that is not his destiny, and not until his destiny is complete can he find peace.  This is a simple story but a highly enjoyable one. Well made and performed with beautiful imagery, making this one of the strongest westerns I’ve ever seen. A phenomenal cast, and I think any movie with Kurt Russell is probably worth watching.  Maybe I should start watching more westerns again.
