Krzysztof Kieślowski‘s first film in his colour trilogy is a visually brilliant exploration of grief after a massive tragedy. One might think from my above description that this would be the most depressing film. No, this is one of those films that not only explores the mourning of a recently widowed wife who actually plans to leave behind everything, (including big property, destroying her worldwide reputable husband’s composed tracks) so that she can forget the tragic past and start a new life but this film also explores how hope, faith and love can only bring such characters back on track no matter how much you sacrifice the past life and try to start a new life. Smallest of things makes the character to rethink her decisions like the rat and their babies in her apartment makes her think about her own daughter who died in the tragic accident, then at the cafe one flute player playing…
