Retired farmer and widower Alvin Straight learns one day that his estranged brother Lyle has suffered a severe stroke. Alvin is determined to make things right with Lyle while he still can, but his brother lives in Wisconsin, while Alvin is stuck in Iowa with no car and no driver's license. He then has the idea of making the trip on his old lawnmower, thus beginning a picturesque and at times deeply spiritual odyssey.

I bet Rob Cohen got such high anxiety with how slow Alvin was going and decided he needed to restore balance to the world. 2 years later he did in fact bring that balance.

Wszystkie te dłuższe ujęcia na pola kukurydzy, wszystkie te spokojne rozmowy o żyćku - naprawdę pozwala to chłonąć klimat tej bardziej farmerskiej części USA. Staruszek Alvin pokazuje, że stary człowiek też może, kiedy wokół są ludzie skłonni do pomocy. Bo pomagają tu jemu i to on pomaga innym, przy okazji poznając jakiś wycinek z ich życia. Świetny sposób na przypomnienie o tym, że wszyscy ludzie których mijamy, mają jakieś życie : swoje wzloty, upadki, ciekawe historie do opowiedzenia. Niby banalne, ale po tym filmie jestem pewien, że wolę Lyncha właśnie w tej odsłonie - bardziej dosłownej, prostej (wink). Czasami naprawdę nie trzeba…
