I was expecting the themes established in the first half (racism, adultery etc) to be important in the second half, but then they weren’t  relevant at all. Could have been very interesting if they were.

For a directorial debut, this is not a bad start for Dave Franco. But still I can’t deny that this was a very basic couples drama/slasher horror film. Dave is clearly influenced by many other such slasher horror stuffs and he made it in a very unsurprising way. People who wouldn’t have seen a slasher horror like this might like the film more than me. It has got a good 30 minutes plus build up - vacation in a beautiful rental house, then couples’ conflict, weird caretaker, then it seems somebody might be watching them. Who’s it? and what he’s gonna do? What will happen to the couples’ slowly crumbling relationship?   It’s not a bad build up. Even actors are pretty good. Alison Brie did a phenomenal job in this year’s Netflix film “Horse girl” and in this too she did well. All of them were good but the film ends up being so generic Slasher ride.
