a very simplified portrait of class conflict, with very shaky camera. Why are the characters acting like the house is way bigger than it actually is? It’s big, but it’s not like a maze or somewhere you could get lost in. Ethan Hawke is pretty good. The characters feel more like symbols and commentary on americans than actual characters. Still fun, and short!
Such a waste of a great concept. Could've executed this with so much more, more depth, more showcasing of what the rules and the world is like. But I was pretty sad to see half the movie taking place through the lens of a dumb child's toy, making the stereotypical dumb decisions. This idea of the purge is so interesting to me, wish it played out in more interesting ways than just corny kills and people's idealogies changing in an instant about the purge.
