The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring2001

Does Frodo choose to carry the ring or is he compelled by the ring to carry it? Is it that the ring strictly enjoys the torment it causes and Frodo volunteers in order to spare others or does it see the good in Frodo and chooses him as it knows it will not be waylaid by violence and greed like it would with another? I was so moved on this watch maybe more than any other time I’ve watched it. By the time he makes it to Rivendell, he was ready to go home. He had done more and gone further than many have in entire lifetimes. And one way or another, he is compelled to take up the burden and carry it to the end. And do it alone. Only in the face of his bravery do the others unite with him.  As a kid, I never understood why they have to split up. But to me now, I see it that all members would have been eventually corrupted by the ring, so they have to trust in Frodo to do it alone. With Sam. Maybe I still don’t get it. But if they did all stay together, then Aragorn and Co. would not have been there to defend Rohan and Gondor, and they would have fallen. Which perhaps says something about fate and destiny in the world of Middle-earth.  There is so much heart in this movie. There is a warmth and a goodness too in it despite the looming evil. The people of the Shire and the bond of the Fellowship. The kindness of the Elves. This movie builds a lot of the hope that will carry over to the other two. There’s nothing left to say.  It’s still a masterpiece.
