On the eve of her 17th birthday, Mari and friend Phyllis set off from her family home to attend a rock concert in the city. Attempting to score some drugs on the way, the pair run afoul of a group of vicious crooks, headed up by the sadistic Krug.

This is Wes Craven’s first film. It is not completely unwatchable, but you do need to have some kind of understanding or expectations of what you’re getting into. I mean, this movie isn’t much more than something to shock and titillate young people in 1972. And I can appreciate it for that. But like so much D “horror” from this time, it is so drawn out. It’s not funny or scary or interesting, really. It’s just kind of nothing. Surprisingly bland from the man who invented and reinvented so many horror staples.
