The Katakuri family has just opened their guest house in the mountains. Unfortunately their first guest commits suicide and in order to avoid trouble they decide to bury him in the backyard. Things get way more complicated when their second guest, a famous sumo wrestler, dies while having sex with his underage girlfriend and the grave behind the house starts to fill up more and more.

Takashi Miike during a pitch or whatever. fundemetaly, "The Happiness of the Katakuris" is a story about resilliance and the importnace of family bonds, it surely features a lot of fever dreams elements but it remains a celebration of family bonds in an absurd way. and aren't those the best films ? i'd like to talk abt the claymation creature and its meaning, death, the importance of food and how it thematically ties to the narrative, and the charchters themselves represtning "social fialures" and so on.. but c'mon look at this film, just lay back and embrance the cringe.
