Can be inspiring to anybody who wants to be a filmmaker

quanto mais eu vivo e mais penso em ser um cineasta, roteirista, diretor de cinema, mais esse filme vai fazer sentido pra mim. arte e família e tal. Mas gosto como não é um filme "sobre cinema”. É isso? sim, mas é também uma história muito específica sobre um menino percebendo o casamento de seus pais se desfazendo e lidando com isso através da arte, da lente do cinema.

I think Every film makers life has a movie in it. The struggles, anxiety, regrets, dysfunctional family, low self-esteem everything a man faces before becoming successful is something I always take from these kinda films that are loosely based on someone’s life and here it’s partially based on Steven’s life. Don’t think there have been a single film maker who has had it easy - The success. Nobody does because of biases against movie making that is inserted onto our minds will only discourage any kid. It’s never an HOBBY once you are into it passionately. That’s exactly what this movie shows us. John ford rightly says - “Why this business? It will rip you apart”.  Such a well made and well written coming of age story. Yes it’s again Steven playing bit safe but still solid.  I would love it if he comes back with a sci-fi film or something more ambitious.

99/100 My personal theory is that Spielberg kind of makes every movie nowadays like it's going to be the last one he ever makes, hence why his most recent film is semi-autobiographical and the next is an alien movie just like the first film he ever made. However, I personally can't think of a better finale for him than this. I suppose I should start with the obvious. John Williams' score is magnificent here. He's been a constant presence throughout, and he's improved so many of these movies with his timeless scores, and it's no different here. The performances are also excellent here. Gabriel LaBelle is the obvious highlight as our protagonist, Sammy, but I also liked the acting on the rest of the family. The actors work hard to make even minor characters memorable in their own right. I especially liked Paul Dano and Michelle Williams as the parents, as they complement Sammy very well.…
