The Bride!2026

I was really hoping that on a second watch this would all click together for me and make sense. I would see exactly what Maggie Gyllenhaal was going for and hail this as an outspoken masterpiece. But alas, that did not happen. I was left with the exact same feelings I had when I left the theatre the last time. One of bewilderment and disappointment. There is such promise here. The movie looks so good. The leads give good performances with what they are given to work with. Maggie seems great at executing A vision, but she really just needs another voice in the writers’ room.  I’ve never been this mixed on a film before. I was hoping that this time I would be able to give this a definite score, but this movie seems to defy a conventional rating system, and so once again I must abstain.  It is a messy, confusing, entertaining film.  I would love to go to the cinema to watch old musicals with Frankenstein. I think we’d get along like gangbusters.
