swallow has been categorised as a horror/thriller—which happens to be the reason i picked this film as part of my halloween movie marathon—but i think it should fall into psychological drama, as there is nothing horrifying about this movie (aside from the lead character's compulsive eating of nonfood items). i know that sounds ghastly, but everything that happened before and after the pica scenes (and the last one), her internal struggles, her personal background, and what drives her to eat those things are more or less a psychological drama to me. but it's a damn good film and i can't help but bawl my eyes out when hunter confronted her estranged father, erwin. for a movie that touches on pica it does indeed explored a lot of themes beyond it, on losing oneself, finding closure, letting go and moving on. and what awaits for her in the future? like our lives ahead of us, we simply do not know
Fantastic film about control! The cinematography is simply beautiful and the story is so moving. It’s the type of movie to watch alone, because of how personal it can be. I had my jaw dropped for most of it, especially because of Haley Bennett's performance. It’s not for everyone but certainly for me. now I’m gonna go eat dirt
