For a directorial debut (Egor Abramenko) this is a solid alien movie that is much more than just an alien movie. Basically Russia was (or is?) a country where everybody was trying to be a hero be it any profession. Especially here in this film many characters use the line “He’s a hero” “We want to be a hero” “Want to win noble prize”. Multiple times “Hero” word is used.  But are they really doing something that is humane in nature which is the true quality of a HERO or are they doing just for the heck of getting a HERO tag from the government??  This part is something which really made me think about. Powerful people are soaked so much in their power that “Humanity” word is lost somewhere. Taking advantage of everything to upgrade their position. How brilliantly this Sci-Fi/Alien horror film mix the unpredictable alien tropes with the reality of some powerful people in the soviet military.  A debut film can never be without flaws. Some things escalate in the film pretty quickly and I wondered how the heck it reached to this. Slightly convenient route it took in few places though overall the film is unpredictable, mysterious and incredibly performed by the lead actress Oksana Akinshina.  Overall a really solid debut and thoroughly enjoyable Sci-fi/Alien film that is ultimately about companionships, sacrifices and honesty which is the ultimate quality of a true “HERO”. Who would have thought an alien film would talk about all these.
