Metal drummer Ruben begins to lose his hearing. When a doctor tells him his condition will worsen, he thinks his career and life is over. His girlfriend Lou checks the former addict into a rehab for the deaf hoping it will prevent a relapse and help him adapt to his new life. After being welcomed and accepted just as he is, Ruben must choose between his new normal and the life he once knew.

Wow. Have not seen a movie this brilliant in such a long time.

I had a great experience with this one. For having close to two hours, the pace is very good. I really enjoy stories that have a focused point of view in just one character, which this had. It really made me feel many of his emotions in a very subjective way. The loss of a sense that is vital to your current way of life is one huge fear of mine.
One of THE BEST character study films of all time. It’s magnificent how a character who had found “kingdom of god” in his metal music in the beginning and in the end finds “kingdom of god” in silence. Spiritually if we think, this film is supreme when it comes to that aspect, not only to people who lose their hearing but just PEOPLE in general. We are so worried about our lives that are swiftly moving but little do we realise the beauty in silence/stillness in this world. Just letting audience experience his struggle of going deaf through sound/hearing experiences was absolutely emotional and sad. Ending is spiritually spectacular. Riz Ahmed is phenomenal (Best actor contender) but I really want to mention Paul Raci as Joe. He was the best supporting actor in this. Some of the scenes with him were so memorable and I really want him to get nominated for best supporting actor.
