SMILE tries(?) to have a good take on mental illness by having its protagonist be a doctor that cares and listen to her patients, but then the movie itself punishes every single action of someone who believes, listens to or tries to help people with the metaphorical illness that is the main horror of the movie. Themes aside, it has very loud jumpscares most of the time and one really cool looking creature at the end. This was probably destined to not work for me because of all the… smiling. Turns out I usually like to put myself in the emotions the characters are experiencing in a movie and a way I sometimes do that, even unintentionally is copying a facial expression. This made it hard to feel scared when everybody on screen has a huge goofy smile most of the time. :)

Pretty boring. Concept of the monster was pretty basic and predictable, characters were boring, most of the scares were pretty generic, and the finale was pretty boring too. I'll still give the second one a chance though, sounds a lot cooler.
