Sir

The film is so understated and beautifully structured relationship between a maid and her SIR. Construction of it all is the KEY which makes this a very special film. I will decode it simply -  In the beginning few scenes literally Ashwin (Sir) says “Thank you” to his maid like 8-9 times whenever she helped him with anything. Then there are few subtlest gazes here and there and It’s not shown what exactly their mind is telling at that moment. Love is brewing slowly. Then in the middle there are few “It’s okay, Ratna” from Ashwin multiple times which again tells you how much he likes her and trusts her. Then again few more gazes but this time love is starting to show a bit but not excessively. Then slowly “Thank you” starts coming from Ratna in one or two scenes. Gifts are exchanged. They even start sharing stuffs regarding their life. Then the intimacy which again is very subtle and defines each of the characters who have got respect to each other. Even Ashwin is not just using her to sleep with her. Ratna though gets bit hesitant and tells about how people might think and what will be the consequences in her village and tells Ashwin to forget that evening. Ashwin still is very loyal to her and gets her a job as a fashion designer. Then in the end, and in what maybe the most beautiful scene of the film, Ratna during a phone call, calls him by his name for the first time “Ashwin”. Film ends there. Gem 💎  Basically in between these multiple “Thank you” “It’s okay,Ratna” from Ashwin and also by Ratna towards the end, few gazes here and there plus ending with her calling him “Ashwin”, their relationship brewed beautifully and slowly just like as it would in real life. Love is surely defined by these basic words irrespective of different classes. Lovely film and Tillotama Shome Is terrific ❤️
