Why does this movie have a 2.8 average score? It is a "shockingly" well-made genre mashup about Nazi zombies attacking a shipwrecked group of seafarers. There's great character development here, and pretty solid pacing. It's also beautifully shot with a haunting atmosphere and tense score. Has anyone confirmed this movie inspired a scene in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now? Lots of great shots in this movie. Peter Cushing as the zombie Nazi's leader and John Carradine as the ship captain were pitch perfect. The passengers were fully developed as well. Rose, played by Brooke Adams from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, may be a final girl, but she's no damsel in distress. Not only did her moral compass led her to safety, but it also gave her character depth. Another great character was Jack Davidson's bitchy little Norman, who's own selfishness and out of control anxiety led to his demise. Strong John Carpenter vibes!
