The journey to become a real boy is not one of self-denial but of self-realization. In our journey to celebrate those who are different, we have forgotten that people can, must, and should change. We are all (hopefully) in a constant state of flux, trying to improve ourselves every day. When Pinocchio becomes real, it’s because of a change in him, not because of his father’s desire.  Zemeckis-fest These live-action remakes only exist to justify their own existence, and this is definitely guilty of that, there is no doubt. Superfluous content added for “depth” and “clarity”. It’s just not necessary. That is the difference between something like this and The Witches. There is already a narrative when it comes to these Disney remakes that they are solely cash-grab slop meant to appeal to Brian-dead Disney adult nostalgia addicts. The only part I enjoyed was Honest John and Gideon because they are just good and fun characters. Everything else is a blatant copy or needlessly changed. There are also new songs, but it never feels like a real musical. 

Be brave, truthful, and unselfish. There were many things that I wish made it to this version. I do not remember much about the original but the plot. Pinocchio is the first stage play that I have seen when I was 6yo. I think the fact that I have not seen the original as many times as others did, nor have I the other versions made a difference compared to others' experience of the film. And I bet it will also be incomparable to the children who will watch this film and it being the first version they will see. Tom Hanks was astounding, as always and so was Benjamin Ainsworth. JGL as Jiminy Crickett was fair too. The showcasing of Pleasure Island was interesting as well. Cleo was yassified but very cute. The details on the clocks were creative. I think they made this one lighter than the original. Perhaps did not want to scare children but that is literally where some of the lessons are. However, points were made. Do not trust people you just met. Do not give in to peer pressure. Be brave, truthful, and unselfish. Listen to and love your parents. It is still heart-warming.
