Just when the film started and few scenes were done, I really thought this to be same old formulaic caste based film that we have seen so many times which is set in college with the romance and girl’s father being a villain. But I was so wrong. Yes, this is that too whatever I said above but that is just a commercial camouflage that takes totally focused route and highly impactful route to tell a casteism story. This is literally new wave of commercial cinema that is coming out nowadays that are trying to be different yet appeal everybody and project important message. Pa Ranjit the producer here did the same in Rajnikanth’s Kaala.  Mari Selvaraj makes sure that it doesn’t feel stale and boring like many such caste based films with cringe worthy villains and senseless action. What Mari does the best is he sets up some brilliant symbolism (Visually and also dialogues) that really means something to the overall subject of the film. The dog was being his angel like following him without knowing that every human is not the same. Same way Jyothi likes him, follows him, get obsessed about him, he calls her an angel too and she also doesn’t see the difference between the caste. She’s totally blind like the dog was. You also see spirit of the dog being coloured in blue. In the beautiful final shot Jyothi is wearing a blue coloured Saree too —Pari in the movie also says “Can’t she be the tiny ray of hope that remains for me” —  That dog was his tiny ray of hope that remained for him but now she is remaining for him as the tiny ray of hope in this cruel world for low-caste people who have to die again and again till they reach their desired destination.
