A group of Malayali travellers, returning to Kerala by bus after their visit to Velankanni, all doze off in a lazy nap after lunch. One of the travelers, James, stops the bus in a village in Tamil Nadu. He starts behaving like a native of the place and speaking in Tamil, confusing his fellow passengers and the villagers alike. He walks amidst faith, delusion, dream and trance, followed by others.

My first best Indian film of 2023 is finally here and who else could have done it other than Lijo. Bang on MASTERPIECE yet again and this is no stranger for Lijo’s audience like me who has always given masterpieces after masterpieces. Only he could have made a stunning piece of cinema from a tiniest plot one could imagine. It could be tiny but it’s saying lot of things about the character’s identity and also in the end it’s beautifully ambiguous as to why and what could have happened. Film not only has a master class in acting by Mammotty but also long shots with wide frames is what drives the film throughout. Visual storytelling is something that Lijo uses here plus using the film’s dialogues/BGM that is playing on TV in that village as the BGM for the real film we are watching is something out of the box I have seen in a long time. Wow. What a start to my movie watching journey again after a big gap. Legend Lijo Jose Pellissery for a reason.
