Brian De Palma prende un classico televisivo e lo trasforma in un thriller di spionaggio elegante, paranoico e stilisticamente impeccabile. Il primo Mission: Impossible resta ancora oggi uno dei migliori capitoli della saga. Tom Cruise è Ethan Hunt, agente dell’IMF accusato di tradimento dopo che una missione a Praga va terribilmente male. Da lì parte una caccia all’uomo fatta di doppi e tripli giochi, in cui non si sa mai chi sia il vero nemico. De Palma dirige con la solita attenzione maniacale alle inquadrature: specchi, angolazioni oblique, tensioni costruite con pazienza. La sequenza nella stanza blindata della CIA (quella del cavo e del sudore che cade) è ancora oggi un piccolo pezzo di cinema puro, costruita quasi interamente sul silenzio e sul controllo del corpo.

I will never not lose my mind at every single moment in this franchise
My first time watching since starting my cruise-athon. I think I like it even more this time. It’s not as crazy as the other films but it’s still a really fun time. It’s interesting that this film is a deconstruction of the M:I tv series and that over the course of the other films they try to bring it closer to the feel of the original show while still plussing it. This movie is incredibly timeless and classic with some really iconic moments. Watching this I would never imagine how far the series would come and how big it would get. I can’t wait for the final reckoning.
