After a police chase with an otherworldly being, a New York City cop is recruited as an agent in a top-secret organization established to monitor and police alien activity on Earth: the Men in Black. Agent K and new recruit Agent J find themselves in the middle of a deadly plot by an intergalactic terrorist who has arrived on Earth to assassinate two ambassadors from opposing galaxies.

The most anxiety I felt during this movie was every time the kitty appeared. I was worried that they were going to do something to it!

Ian Failes, writer for Before and After, asked the MIB eff3cts wizard about the original's success. Q: It’s been 20 years since the film came out, but what do you remember most about Men in Black and its visual effects legacy? Eric Brevig: Well, kind of the most satisfying for me was realising we were definitely at that sweet spot between practical and digital effects. I think since then the industry sort of was swinging too far in one direction, and now it seems like it’s kind of levelling out at once again and saying, let’s use the best technique for what we need to do. If you have that sense of, let’s try to make things look photographic rather than computer graphic, or video game style, or whatever, I think it allows the audiences to identify with the story, and kind of get lost in it to a greater level. I mean Jurassic Park is the standard bearer but Brevig is so right.
