Life of Pi2012

Watched it after reading the book so my opinions are definitely not 💯 accurate, but I still think it’s important to look at it from both a film perspective and as an adaptation.  The movie is beautifully made. The cinematography is stunning with some of the most gorgeous shots I have seen. The scene with the whale is avatar level shit. The story itself is interesting enough on its own and captures the main aspects of the book pretty accurately, but personally I feel that it lacked a lot of the nuances of the book. The first 45 minutes are really good but they are too short in length and take away slot of necessary aspects of the opening, mainly the religious symbolism and adds in a pointless romance. The second Half is fine but not much really happens other than the breathtaking visuals, the ending is probably my least favorite part of the movie as it’s my favorite part of the book. In the book the ending is very subtly told and forces you to think abstractly. The movie has the same ending but it’s just done in a much more transparent way and basically states the ideas right to you. But I still think the movie is beautifully made and generally captures the ideas of the novel fine. It’s a pretty good flick
