Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair2011

I never expected that kill bill would make me cry. I didn’t love part one on my first viewing. I liked the things I liked the first time more but still think everything up to the bride leaving for Japan is kind of weak. I don’t love the look or really anything that happens up to the introduction of O-Ren. But from that point on it really cooks. It’s incredibly fun, funny, and schlocky. Supernatural samurai moves and gore galore. In part one I don’t really care about the story so I only really like the cool moments.  But part 2 works almost completely. It definitely feels different from part one but once we got to the training sequence I was all in. Not as action-heavy overall but better writing and performance. And I was having a great time ready for the final conflict and then boom. The bomb dropped.  Somehow I hadn’t had a very important part of the movie ever spoiled for me and when that moment happened it really hit. Maybe I should have guessed it but it took me completely by surprise and struck a chord with me. Suffice it to say that this movie has an incredibly satisfying payoff and makes the entire thing worth watching. I never thought Tarantino would have had it in him.  Not everything works for me but it’s definitely way better than I expected and thought. And I won’t say that it wasn’t aided by the theatrical experience. I somewhat enjoy the gratuitousness of the length but I do think there is a better, shorter film somewhere in there. Edit: they should have called the Fortnite thing —FORTNITE: The Whole Fortnite Affair The Fortnite Chapter BY FORTNITE gee whiz.
