It's nice watching horrible, generic action films because if I ever make one, I know exactly what not to do
I think there is simplicity to the first that I really appreciate that gets lost here. In the first he is less of a human being and more of a force of nature. It seems like this films whole mission is to humanize him. Which just feels like a weird choice for a second film. To me that’s something you would try to do in a third or fourth installment. Also the way they go about “humanizing” him really falls flat for me. They give him a daughter that the movie pulls out of its ass just for some trumped up drama. It’s like the makers of the first movie thought everyone’s favorite part was the young girl from the auto parts store and said “let’s do that again but more and worse and much more annoying.” To me the first feels like a western in a really fun way. It honestly reminded me of road house (2024) but a little better. They both feature these beings who come into town just to kick ass and do what needs to be done. This movie felt much softer in that regard and Reacher in turn feels less interesting.
