Jack and His Friends

I watched this as a low-quality seven-part YouTube rip, and I still really liked it. The premise is an upper-class square hangs out with two criminals over a weekend at a secluded off-season island town.  This really worked for me. The humor really comes from the absurdity of the characters and the situation and has some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. The rich guy is this total pushover, but he gradually comes out of his shell over the weekend after being fairly confined with these two brash youths. He doesn’t change too much except becoming more decisive and outspoken, and he stays pretty weird. He’s just an incredibly awkward guy, and he plays that role perfectly. As for our two rogue criminals, here we have Sam Rockwell in not his first role ever but his first major one. And here he is fully formed, already an expert at these unusual loud-mouthed characters. I figured his role would be the standout, but honestly, everyone was fantastic, Judy Reyes as well. Honestly, the chemistry and lack thereof of the main trio is really what makes this movie and makes it so fun to watch.
