Even if there are some interesting scenes here and there, Irrational Man is usually uninteresting and messy. Discussions of “crime & punishment” don’t go to very interesting places and don’t feel moved by clashing characters with different opinions and desires, but more like a single voice of one writer. Most characters are the same, but the quirkiness in this doesn’t add any style to compliment the story. It’s a movie about murder but doesn’t seem as heavy as it should be or as light as it could be. It doesn’t take itself seriously but it’s not that funny. So who cares?
