The Alamo Drafthouse recently brought back Baby Day, so I was able to finally take my 2 year old to go see his movie in theaters. It was a great experience. Unfortunately the movie wasn’t that great.

Why did this stupid movie make me cry

I found this film appalling. The acting is stale and wooden, the film is poorly shot (like at the end when Krasinski trips on his imaginary friend), and, overall, the film seems like a missed opportunity. The concept is great, but the filmmakers chose a boring, unoriginal story to play with said concept. For example, the imaginary friends call themselves "IFs," which feels gross and corporate. Ryan Reynolds - a 40-something man who is the imaginary friend of a 12 year old girl - acts like his experience as an IF is a 9-5 job, too. Can we please stop making cartoon characters have something cute be a pretend job? It's depressing. Speaking of depression, Krasinski manufactures this movie to try to make you cry. He wants you to cry so badly that its sick. Don't cry. Don't give him what he wants.
