This is a classic formula for any college based coming off age plus a love story - Show hostel life, first crush, break ups, relationships, canteen, hostel fights, ragging and then life goes on after graduating. This is not new. 1 hour of the film is only this But Hridayam’s best quality is, these classic tropes are shown in a way you feel like bullet points in your note book, as in it doesn’t feel stretched and with this comes a flaw of not showing the characters in depth. Yet after pacy first hour, it takes a beautiful turn into a relationship drama that is so feel good and it justifies the title of the movie. It also gives sense of realism in a way character sees their past. It does away with any melodrama that we see in these kinda films and just makes a solid point on life and relationships. Pure feel good stuff with great performances and music. This is another example where Malayalam cinema somehow manages to engage superbly even with known tropes of the genre and execute it well.
