How to Make a Killing2026

This feels like an instant classic.  There is a version of this that could have come out 60-70 years ago. Now the question is: is this movie out of touch and outdated or prescient and topical? I would say the former if it stuck with a traditional “good guy finds that true happiness does not stem from material wealth but from love and the joy of a simple life.”  But this film says quite the opposite. Let me remind you that Beckett still lived an incredibly privileged life even despite the fact that he grew up with a single mother and then in the foster care system. He is given countless opportunities of success that most never have a chance of experiencing. And his life only starts to get better after his first kill. It makes perfect sense in the end that he will choose wealth over everything else. Any other decision, any other ending, would be completely disingenuous.  I think if it went the traditional ending where he learns “that money isn’t the key to happiness,” it would feel like a slap in the face. We are worse off now than during the Great Depression, but because the quality of living is so high, it is hard to perceive. But make no mistake, we are living through one of the worst times in history.  And I honestly respect its honesty. Money IS everything. More now than ever before. And you should do whatever it takes to make a killing.
