This is a tight movie for everything it's juggling ... Maybe a little too tight. First, I assume lots of people will find the deadbeat dad storyline a little shallow. I didn't mind the limited time spent on the dad because 1) it scares off the niece but 2) it lets the audience see the accuracy of Honey's decision to cut ties. And B) the guy doesn't really deserve screentime. So that was fine The weakest storyline is unfortunately the stuff with Aubrey Plaza. The relationship with Honey felt different scene by scene. Like zero consistency. I'm still confused on how well they know each other. They joked about first dates and second dates but were they jokes? Or is this like the modern family couples hotel kink? Sitting here now, I genuinely don't know. And don't get me wrong - the sex scenes were great. My hats off to Ms. Qualley and Ms. Plaza - they went for it. The two characters seemed to know each other's bodies pretty well for a third date though. In fact, they seemed to know a lot intimate things about each other. Is that from having that one drink (while very distracted)? Maybe I missed some dialogue. Or, maybe the more likely cause is I just don't understand the needs and desires of women in the slightest.
