Having not read the book I came into the film blind.  I can see why Buckley received the Oscar.  Emotionally traumatised by the events that occur , she portrays grief so well.  Will Shakespeare, a secondary character almost is also played well by Mescal.  The film looks great, and it’s an art house film as you can tell by the long silences.  If you have come for long monologues you are out of luck.  As a fan of the play, and Shakespeare’s work, I didn’t feel it detracts from it or creates any additional myths. I only hope it inspires people to look into the bards work.

not knowing the original play made the experience of watching it 100x better

'Hamnet: A Vida Antes de Hamlet', como o próprio nome diz, conta a história de antes de William Shakespeare escrever a sua famosa peça, Hamlet. A obra gira muito em torno do luto, e como cada um lida com ele. Shakespeare escreveu Hamlet como uma forma de lidar com a tamanha dor que sentiu após a morte de seu filho. É muito admirador como Chloé Zhao consegue conduzir o filme de um jeito sensível e melancólico. A atuação de Jessie Buckley é devastadora, conseguindo transmitir todas as emoções que Agnes estava sentindo no momento. Vale destacar a incrível performance de Jacobi Jupe, que entrega tudo quando aparece em tela.

This movie continues the internal sway as to whether I actually respect and like the theater. Ultimately, I think I love it, but it's fun to go back and forth

There’s not a single film or a series where Max Richter’s “On the nature of daylight” didn’t work for me. Climax hit me harder because this musical piece is super special for me. But I also wondered whether the climax would have hit this much harder with an original background music? Maybe or maybe not. This thinking is the only thing I mention as a negative from this gem of a film by Chloe Zhao. Yes, it was masterfully used for a scene but the musical piece being sooo special can sometimes take over me and maybe forcefully made me sad about the scene??  Nonetheless truly moving story and direction that has all the finesse/magical touch of Chloe Zhao that I have always wanted ever since Marvel exploited her unfortunately. She is truly back. Jessie and Paul were magnificent. Jessie might be my winner this year at Oscar. Her best performance according to me.

Rip shakespeare. You would have loved this movie.
