I did not fall asleep

Everything in this movie is perfect, but I really have to mention how good the soundtrack is, especially the Layla scene.

This movie to me is good confusing and wtf to me. But got me interested in watching more Scorsese films in 2026

The energetic cinematography, editing, and soundtrack got me extremely excited and anxious. I was expecting to dislike it for thinking I wasn’t too interested in gangster movies, but I was so wrong. Scenes that I had seen disconnected from their context feel extremely natural here!

Scorses-a-thon “After a while, it got to be all normal. None of it seemed like crime. It was more like Henry was enterprising, and that he and the guys were making a few bucks hustling, while all the other guys were sitting on their asses, waiting for handouts. Our husbands weren't brain surgeons; they were blue-collar guys. The only way they could make extra money, real extra money, was to go out and cut a few corners.” This is it. This is the movie Marty’s wanted to make since It’s Not Just You, Murray. This is Mean Streets all grown up. And it’s as good as everybody says. Just an amazing story, and the editing is as snappy as ever. I’ve really missed a really good Scorsese flick, and this might be the best yet. Just everything Scorsese, perfected. Like a “best of”album.  Henry Hill feels more nuanced while still fitting in the standard Scorsese mold. But he’s definitely come a long way since Raging Bull, with a character with flaws that you can still enjoy following or even root for. I was surprised Karen had such a huge part in the film and how much we got from her perspective. I think this movie Italian-American would make an incredible double feature. Showing a somewhat average Italian family vs a family in the mob.
